Progress

So haven't posted in awhile.
Started with these speed paints based on the animation I'm doing in studio and ended up taking the forest one further.
But I wasn't really feeling it, so I looked at reference.
These are by Alex Mandra, from Apollo 18. I really really like the simple use of color on a very single colored background to make it really come out. And the use of really simple, strong lines to say alot. Really the last one. So then had an idea of this cowboy guy in the desert with some old-styled robot buried under the sand like part of a structure and spat out these.
But I really couldn't get an awesome dynamic perspective down, so I made it out in maya and cheated alot and didn't really have to draw perspective and started work on this.
Which is definitely WIPWIP.

  1. Excellent narrative of the creative process. Good ideas and references, and thinking about what you want to do. It is NOT cheating to use Maya. Artists have always used whatever tool that would help them say what they want. Look up camera obscura and the secret knowledge for more on this. Good idea. Make sure we sense the desert, and have a sense of space spreading out, and a path in. You are on your way.
