Hi everyone,
Could I get your feedback on which "portrait 1" to continue? Neither is finished, neither really looks like me, but I'm okay with that as long as it looks like a face at this point. The second is more stylized, but I'm leaning more towards it at the moment (possibly because I got really frustrated with the first one). Anyway I have to focus on one and I'd appreciate any thoughts - thanks.
The second seems a little more natural and compositionally pleasing. The position of the hair in the first one frames your face awkwardly while the second falls more to the side and behind your face framing it without getting in the way.
ReplyDeleteYeah, my hair kept falling in my face the first time, so I just drew it that way, but I agree with what you said :-/
ReplyDeleteIf said problem (and the hat) were fixed, would you still prefer the second? Sorry, I'm really indecisive. I guess I wonder how people react to the expression in the second. I was just playing around and decided to make it look sort of sickly and miserable (whereas the first makes me think of creepy doll eyes).
now i'm liking the hat one better.....
ReplyDeleteI like both of them. You could print out both, and also the SP 2 for class Monday. I love the gentleness and thoughtfulness of the eyes in the second one. Ah, I see you have moved the eyes in the first one too so that you are not looking directly at the camera. Maybe influenced by the second one? I wonder if the hat takes over too much? Too flat? Would the left side of the had (as we look at pic) be more in shadow, receding into the canvas? Also: I wonder about the angle of the philtrum in the hat one. Good work!
ReplyDeleteNB: The space between the nose and mouth is called the philtrum (sometimes spelt philtrim).
