Concept Artist Inspiration: David Levy

Artist: David Levy

David Levy is the artist who gave the Gnomon talk I watched about concept painting with brushes. I looked up his portfolio and found his work rather inspiring, especially his futuristic pieces. They tend to have very deep space, and they do have the typical mech or starship approach. I hope to make a concept that is perhaps similar to this.

  1. Yes, look carefully at his work for inspiration - as you are already doing in your concept art posted later. You should present some of his secrets to the class ie brush design and use, and angle rather than pressure....

  2. Only one issue: yes, experiment with his wonderful brushes and techniques - very cool. But be sure to look at the end result and edit or compose, or change contrast of value or whatever to get what you want. There is always a tension in art - all art - between what you and the canvas do together collaboratively while submerged in the creative process - and then what you decide in quiet assessment. Glad I got a chance to throw that into the mix ;-)
